STRAW-BALE CARAVAN

The intention is to live on site and to live in we plan to build a mobile home using straw bales and clad in timber.

Straw-bale buildings are supposedly cost-effective, easy to build and highly energy efficient. The process uses natural materials, which are seen as a by-product from agriculture with over 5.6 million tonnes produced surplus to requirement each year in the UK. Straw has a negative carbon footprint, storing carbon in its fabric for the lifetime of the building and is super insulative (0.11W/m2K), two or three times better than contemporary materials. Finishing materials for the inside and outside can make use of natural materials, usually available locally or on-site.
